A Home Language Short Story Anthology for the Intermediate Phase

I contributed towards this collection of short stories for Grades 4 – 6 along the broad theme of ‘Going Wild’ My story is called She is Wild. 

Going Wild and Short Stories comprises enthralling illustrated content curated to captivate readers as they explore and master the use of English as a Home Language in Grades 4–6.

The stories highlight the theme of caring for the environment: there are lively descriptions of food and the outdoors, a spooky treasure hunt with an elephant, scenes from remote villages and bustling cities, letters, fantasy and fascinating pieces of history, including a scene from a play.

South Africa’s famed and upandcoming voices writers have written new pieces or reworked existing content to cultivate worldeducated readers. Some writers featured include Lauren Beukes, Qarnita Loxton, Lester Walbrugh, Bontle Senne, Elinor Sisulu, Sally Partridge, Sindiwe Magona, Siphiwo Mahala.

Each story provides all the support materials written by Diane Awerbuck and reviewed by the English for Life author Lynne Southey needed to make for lively and interactive classroom experiences according to CAPS requirements.

About the authors

Helen Moffett is an author, editor, poet, academic, and activist. She has written two green (eco) handbooks: 101 Waterwise Ways and Wise About Waste: 150+ ways to help the planet?. Her children’s book, Toast, was the hundredth title published by literacy NPO Book Dash.

Tanika Cronje, also known as “Sister Sphynx”, is an artist, illustrator and graphic designer based in Cape Town. She studied Art and Design in Durban and Cape Town. She is the cover designer and illustrator of the short story anthology, Going Wild and Other Stories, compiled by Helen Moffett.
